Please come to Flint, Michigan this weekend for the Free City Public Art Festival. My new piece " Spinning Circle/Shooting Cloud" commissioned by Flint Public Art Project (FPAP) will be on view.
Spinning Circle/Shooting Cloud
Sculpture medium: LED lights, atmosphere ( water mist)
Size: approx 30'- 40' circumference
Inspired from land art, minimalist esthetics, and "happpenings" as well as from Buddhist park sized light mandelas, pop art sensitivities and popular holiday decoration, this temporoary public art installation will come to being, responding to the dynamics of the site as it transforms day by day to form the Free City festival. Combining minimalist esthetics with new media this large scale intervention will pulsate from it's center outwards with colors and a rising mist which will claim a section of the site as a genesis of mystery.
The site, Chevy in the Hole and the placement of the sculpture within, are a pivotal location for the city. First the bend in the river which generated the original foundation of Flint and the former Chevrolet factory site, indication of a major change in our industrialized society as the site is not a brown-field empty lot. Drawing from rain water and temporary power, Raphaele works with FPAP and the onsite engineer expert in renewable energy to integrate this work into the landscape. Raphaele has been working with FPAP conceptualizing urban multi-media interventions since 2011, of which this will be the first large-scale realization.
Special thanks to Steve Zachs, Jerome Chou and James Andrews
